In an ideal world, your corporate identity would be entirely based on the work you do. That would make it easy to control. Put some solid hours in, know you’ve done good work, job’s a good ‘un.
Unfortunately it’s just not that simple. Your ‘corporate identity’ is a multitude of factors. It’s your work, yes, but also your name, your logo, your image and your reputation.
First impressions are vitally important. Customers make decisions in seconds. Even if they weigh a few firms up, they do so after whittling away the ones they don’t like the look of. Make no mistake, they will judge you on your business’s overall look. You can sit there thinking ‘it’s not fair, so what if my website’s a bit shabby around the corners, isn’t it the work that’s important’ but by then your customer has already moved on.
Think about how you see and judge businesses all the time. If you walked along the high street, in sore need of a dry cleaner, and found three next door to each other, how would you decide which one to go into first?
You’d make a series of snapshot decisions. Which looks cleaner, shinier, maybe which is better value. You might look online and see if there are any reviews, perhaps check out their Facebook or Twitter pages.
You wouldn’t judge it on the best ‘dry cleaning,’ would you, because there’s no quick way to find that out. Pressed for time, you’d be looking for information you can access quickly, and that includes everything from the look and feel of the place to what other people are saying, and the information the firm itself is putting out, from its storefront to its promotional material to its website.
Maintaining all of this can feel like a lot of balls to juggle on top of the day-to-day work of getting your actual job done. So why not bring in some help to ensure you’re always putting your best foot forward?
